Hello, my name is Myra-Ida van der Veen.

Welcome to my website.

I’m a vocalist and multimedia artist exploring the human voice and its extensions through technology and physical instruments. My own artistic research often questions the anatomy of a choir: where does the voice begin, and where does it end? In my practice, I investigate these boundaries through performance, building DIY instruments and improvisations. One of my works, Second Breath, is an audiovisual choir performance inspired by the anatomy of frogs and the primal essence of the voice: the breath. I also co-lead vocal improvisation sessions at a church in The Hague, using collective voice to explore connection and presence in group settings.

After graduating in 2023 from ArtScience at KABK, I have been pursuing a Musician3.0 master’s at the conservatory in Utrecht while working as an Education Assistant at the Instrument Inventors Initiative [iii] in The Hague. There, I coordinate workshops that merge sound/art, the human senses, and technology. In 2024, I was a resident at iii. Next to coordinating workshops at iii, I also coordinated workshops for the NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) conference in Utrecht 2024.

Together with Christy Westhovens and Andrzej Konieczny we co-founded Coffee & Tech, a community-driven workshop series that brings together DIY culture, creative tech support, and problem-solving. We’ve hosted workshops at iii and ArtEZ Arnhem and Zwolle, 2023-now.

Since 2022, I’ve been active with the multidisciplinary band inneruu, where we experiment with new, playful forms of interaction within band culture.

As a duo with Andrzej Konieczny, I compose music for theater, including Lysistrata (Gdańsk, Poland, 2024) and Alice in Wonderland (Poznań, Poland, 2025). I also collaborated as a sound designer/performer for choreographer Mireia Varón Gallofré on Skin Hunger, a dance performance designed for people with impaired vision.
