Second breath

Second Breath is a performance that explores the physicality of sound as it emerges from the most primal source of the voice: the breath. Through this, the performers unravel the intricate relationship between the human body and the vibrations that resonate from the body. When one sings, they fill their lungs with air. The air flows out, and by shaping different parts of their body, they create certain sounds: temporal voices, temporal breath. Drawing inspiration from the anatomy of frogs and the endless need to extend our bodies, Myra crafted an environment that explores extensions of the anatomy or a group of singers. Central to the piece is a transformative wearable instrument, an extension of the performer’s lungs that shapes around their chest, capturing their breath, and transforming it into a second resonating chamber for sound. In this shared moment of vulnerability, Second Breath becomes a meditation on the fragility and profound power of the human voice.
